Spirulina and Dandelion Chai Latte

Spirulina and Dandelion Chai Latte

Warm up this winter with a cozy chai latte—We Are The New Farmers style! Our version of the classic provides the spiced flavor you love, spiked with our signature spirulina. We swapped black tea for nourishing dandelion root so you can enjoy a cup morning, noon, and night caffeine-free.

Makes about 2 ¾ cups

Ingredients

1 cinnamon stick

1/2 of whole star anise

¼ teaspoon fennel seeds

4 cardamom pods (lightly crushed)

1 pinch of black pepper

3 quarter-inch slices of ginger

1 cup almond milk

2 dandelion root tea bags

2 cups water

2-3 tablespoons maple syrup (to taste)

½ tablespoon We Are The New Farmers’ fresh spirulina

Directions

1.     In a small saucepan bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, turn off the heat and place the dandelion root tea bags in the hot water. Let the tea steep for 3-5 minutes and set aside

2.     In a small saucepan over medium heat, toast the cinnamon stick, star anise, fennel, and cardamom pods for 3 minutes. Stir gently to prevent the spices from burning

3.     Now, add the ginger, black pepper, and almond milk to the saucepan

4.     Bring the chai to a low boil over medium-high heat. Once the liquid begins to boil, reduce to a simmer (we used the lowest setting on the stovetop) for ten minutes

5.     After ten minutes passes, pour the dandelion tea into the almond milk and spice mixture

6.     Add the spirulina and stir until fully dissolved

7.     Sweeten with maple syrup and pour the tea through a fine mesh strainer into your favorite cup(s) or mug(s). Enjoy!
